Surrounding all of the Circle C residential neighborhoods is 462
acres of dedicated parkland, the Circle C Park. While the vast
majority of the park is native land with hike and bike trails only,
two major developed areas provide countless hours of recreational
activities for residents and their families. At the west end
of the park, seven irrigated soccer fields serve over 1600 children
who play in the South Austin Youth Soccer Association. Also,
in this area are numerous park amenities including:
Future park improvements to be made by 2001
include:
At
the east end of the park is the unique 3.1
mile Veloway,
a 23 foot wide track made exclusively for rollerblading
and cycling. The track is one of only five in the United
States and sets a standard for safe and fun cycling. Located
across from the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center, the track
meanders through Hill Country meadows and hills. The Veloway
is used heavily by families, recreational and serious cyclists.
Under the settlement with the City of Austin, the
Circle C Parks Committee will be working with the City to obtain
funding for Phase II of the Veloway, another 3.1 mile segment
adjacent to the existing track. The second phase of the
Veloway will be on land that is already dedicated to the park, and
provide a flat racing track, suitable for competitive time trials
and criterium racing. Phase I and Phase II will combine for an
overall 10K ride, with a variety of terrain and challenges for all
levels of cyclists.
